It’s that time of year again, where we get ready for a fun and faith-filled week of Vacation Bible School! This year, we are having VBS in the evenings, June 17-21, from 5:30 to 8:30. Here at First Baptist Church Oak Grove, we are passionate about teaching children the truth of the Gospel, and VBS is one of the most dynamic ways we get to do that. We anticipate that 80 to 100 kids from all over the community will participate, and it takes a lot of volunteers to make it work!

If you love kids and the Lord, please consider devoting part of your time that week to helping us with Vacation Bible School. Some of the positions we need filled are listed below:
Registration — If you are an organized person, we could use you at the registration table each evening from 5:00 to 5:30 to help check the kids in.
Crew Leader — An adult who leads a mixed-age group of children throughout the stations of VBS. A great crew leader is high-energy, greets their kids warmly each day, provides the example for their kids in worship, leads discussions among their crew on topics provided, and feels comfortable praying with and for the children in their care. No preparation required, but must be punctual, security-conscious, and able to maintain control of their group. The crew leader is a vital component of the safety of all the children while they are in our care, and must stay with their group from 5:15 until about 8:45 after every child’s parent picks him or her up.
Preschool Teachers/Assistants — Help teach the preschoolers who do VBS activities each day in two fixed rooms in addition to playing preschool games outside. Preschool teachers should be engaging, affectionate, and creative. They will be leading about 20 preschoolers in Bible lessons, singing, crafts, snacks, and games. They should also be security-conscious, since they must maintain control and security of all their preschoolers each day from the time they are dropped off until they are picked up by their parents (5:15-8:45).
Stampede Sports Leader — Runs three half-hour game sessions with groups of 25 to 30 kids outside. (Crew leaders remain with their kids to help supervise.) A good games leader has boundless energy and a fun personality. The games leader will be provided with a book explaining the games the kids will play each day. He or she should communicate early with church staff to procure supplies needed for each of the games. Ideally, the games leader will practice the games ahead of time with several volunteers to see how they work. Watch Stampede Sports Preview Video!
Stampede Sports Assistant — A teen who assists the Stampede Sports Leader. Helps insure all the kids understand the rules, play safely, and stay in the areas assigned for games.
Photographer — The photographer visits each of the stations during each of the rotations to snap a few candid shots of the kids learning, playing, and singing. He or she also snaps pics of the kids in the preschool and nursery rooms, Fellowship Hall, and the sanctuary during opening and closing assembly each day. As the kids are arriving each day is a good time to get some posed shots in front of the stage backdrop, too. The pictures will be stitched together into videos set to the Shipwrecked theme music; skills in this area would be a bonus, but not necessary.
Hungry Herd Cafe — Our outstanding kitchen crew could use some help each day setting up, serving, and cleaning up the Fellowship Hall after the kids come through.
Teen Assistants may also be needed for the workers’ nursery, KidVid Cinema, Imagination Station, and Wild Bible Adventures.
If you want to volunteer for any of these positions, please email Liz at fbcog@mchsi.com. And thanks so much for your servant’s heart!!
